New York: Trooper suffers minor injuries after 4-car accident on Thruway

A chain-reaction crash involving four vehicles on the southbound I-190 on Grand Island Saturday night left a New York State trooper with minor injuries.

Trooper Joseph Menna of State Police Buffalo barracks had stopped a Chevy Suburban on the Thruway, between Exits 19 and 20, about 9:20 p.m. Saturday when a chain-reaction accident occurred. A Chevy Cobalt driven by a Victor woman braked suddenly and lost control of her car which struck a Honda Odyssey being driven by a Getzville man. At the same time, a Chevy Buick was merging from the driving lane into the left lane and struck the Cobalt, forcing the Cobalt into the stopped Suburban which struck Trooper Menna, pushing him over a guiderail, where he fell down an embankment.

Menna was taken to Erie County Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

An Ontario man who had been driving the SUV was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to be evaluated but he declined medical treatment.

The accident is still under investigation.
