New Jersey: West Long Branch cop struck by car
A West Long Branch police officer has been struck by a motor vehicle outside Shore Regional High School. The officer has been taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where his condition is unknown at this time.
Asbury Park Press photographer Thomas P. Costello is at the scene of the incident, where he was covering the high school football game between Shore Regional and Asbury Park High School on Friday night.
Costello said the officer was directing traffic at the time he was struck at the Parker Road entrance into the school complex.
A young man was observed taken into custody at the scene.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) was being summoned to the scene of the 9:40 p.m. accident.
