Missouri: Webster Groves police officer struck in legs while investigating accident, expected to recover
A Webster Groves police officer was struck in the legs by a vehicle Tuesday night while investigating a previous multi-vehicle accident. The officer was taken to a hospital and he is expected to recover, police said.
The incident happened at about 6:25 p.m. in the 100 block of North Elm Street, a couple blocks from the police station.
After the police officer got information from drivers involved in the previous accident, he walked back toward his patrol SUV to call in the information, said Capt. Stephen Spear.
The officer's SUV was struck from behind, pushing it into his legs. The patrol vehicle continued forward and hit one of the three vehicles involved in the initial accident. That vehicle struck one of the drivers who had been involved in the original accident, police said.
That driver was also taken to a hospital and that person's condition was unknown later Tuesday night, police said.
The driver who struck the patrol vehicle was in custody pending an investigation.
