Georgia: Police cruiser struck as officer investigates accident

A Fulton County police officer was hospitalized after his cruiser was struck as he was investigating an accident in College Park overnight. The crash happened on the 4300 block of South Fulton Parkway just after 11 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, the officer was in his vehicle with the flashers on when a vehicle attempted to go around him. The vehicle ended up sideswiping the officer's vehicle. The officer was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver who struck the cruiser stayed on scene and was cited for failure to maintain a lane. The officer was initially investigating an accident involving two vehicles on Roosevelt Highway. In the crash, three people were hospitalized including one person with critical injuries.

In that crash, one of the vehicles made an improper left hand turn and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

That accident remains under investigation.
