Colorado: Speeding driver crashes into fire truck
After one fatal accident and one near-miss, let this week serve as a reminder to slow down and use caution around emergency vehicles.
On Saturday morning, just six days after Colorado State Patrol Trooper Jaimie Jursevics was killed by a drunk driver, a speeding driver hit a fire truck on Highway 85 at County Road 26, narrowly avoiding firefighters, who were tending to another car accident.
"One of the riskiest things we do is direct traffic or pull out on the highways," said Phil Tiffany, fire chief at Fort Lupton Fire Protection District. "[Drivers] just don't pay attention."
Tiffany said the truck's emergency lights were flashing, and that witnesses saw other drivers move to allow the speeding driver enough space to miss the truck. No one was injured.
