United Kingdom: Two in court after police officer hit by car he was trying to stop
Dudley Magistrates Court Mohammed Asim, from Queens Cross, is accused of hitting the police sergeant - leaving the 40-year-old needing hospital treatment for hand and leg injuries - and then speeding away from the scene. Birmingham woman Naila Yasmen, from Highfield Road in Saltley, has also been charged in connection with the incident. Tt’s alleged the 33-year-old shop worker falsely reported her car - the VW Golf believed to have struck the officer - as stolen just two hours after the 3.30pm collision. She faces a charge of perverting the course of justice and, alongside factory worker Asim, is scheduled to appear at Dudley Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 21, following the incident in Wolverhampton Road on August 6.
Detective Constable Pete Miller, from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: “Fortunately the officer escaped with minor injuries and was quickly discharged from hospital - but there is no doubt he could have been seriously hurt."
