United Kingdom: Police officer cut from car after motorist ploughs into patrol vehicle on hard shoulder
A police officer was cut free from a patrol car after a crash on the M61 near Farnworth. The officer was inside his police vehicle, a BMW 3-series estate, on the hard-shoulder of the motorway when it was struck by a passing motorist driving a silver coloured vehicle.
The police officer was trapped inside his vehicle. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene to cut him from the car. Police later said on social media that the officer was doing well in hospital.
Two lanes of the motorway were closed for several hours on Saturday afternoon while police and fire crews dealt with the incident. It happened on the southbound carriageway between Junction 4 for Farnworth and Junction 3 for Kearsley Spur, just after 12.30pm.
Police have not confirmed whether anyone was arrested in connection with the crash.
