South Carolina: SCDOT worker struck and killed by dump truck in Darlington Co.
A South Carolina Department of Transportation worker died after being struck by an SCDOT dump truck in the Oates community of Darlington County Tuesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
At about 11:30 a.m., 51-year-old Henry Norris, an SCDOT worker, was walking on Mayberry Road behind a dump truck driven by 59-year-old Wayne Rhodes, according Cpl. Sonny Collins with SCHP. Rhodes was backing the truck up onto the roadway, and struck and killed Norris.
According to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, Norris was airlifted from the scene. He was taken to the Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Newberry, South Carolina.
The crash is under investigation by Highway Patrol and the HP MAIT Team. No charges have been filed.
