Louisiana: Suspect in narcotics investigation leads police on chase after hitting deputy with vehicle

A suspect is in custody after officials say he hit a deputy with his vehicle while trying to avoid being captured during an undercover narcotics investigation. According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection Old Hammond Highway and Blvd. de Province. Undercover deputies were set to meet the suspect at a business located at Old Hammond Hwy. and Boulevard de Province for the narcotics investigation. When investigators confronted the suspect, who was identified as 21-year-old Eddie Isadore, they say he attempted to drive off. Deputies in full gear tried to block the suspect.

"At that time the suspect actually tried to back out over one of our deputies. He hit him in the knees," EBRSO spokesperson Casey Hicks said.

According to Hicks, another deputy fired shots at the suspect as he was driving away, although Isadore was not hit.

After hitting the deputy with his vehicle, the suspect drove off, which began a police chase that lasted about 15 minutes and reached speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, and speeding through school zones.

Hicks said Isadore was eventually apprehended in the parking lot of a business located near the intersection of Sherwood Forest Blvd. and Coursey Blvd. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated damage to property, aggravated flight, and resisting by force of violence.

As for the original narcotics investigation, deputies were getting a search warrant for the suspect's vehicle. That investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff's Office said it will likely add more charges to the list.

The deputy who was hit was not seriously injured and is expected to be ok.
