Iowa safety department identifies trooper who shot at vehicle that hit squad car
The Iowa Department of Public Safety has released the name of a trooper who shot at a vehicle last week after it struck a squad car. A news release from the department says Iowa State Trooper Jewel O'Rear fired the shot on Oct. 1.
Investigators say O'Rear attempted to pull over a vehicle that may have been involved in retail thefts in Cedar Rapids, and a chase ensued.
Authorities say the driver pulled into a gas station, then struck a Johnson County Sheriff's deputy's squad car. Officials say O'Rear then shot into the driver's side rear tire of suspect's vehicle. No one was injured.
