Georgia: Rockdale deputy hurt in crash, flown to Atlanta hospital; 2 arrested
A Rockdale County deputy was flown to Atlanta Medical Center after being injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon while pursuing two theft suspects, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Rockdale deputies responded to a theft call on Ga. 138 near Sigman Road, and the suspects and van were still at the scene when the authorities arrived, a GSP spokesman said. Deputies attempted to block the suspects’ vehicle, but it hit a patrol vehicle and left the parking lot.
While pursuing the suspects, a deputy drove off Calloway Crossing and hit a fence, the GSP said.
The two suspects, whose names were not released, and the vehicle they were traveling in were all located in the Calloway Crossing neighborhood. Both suspects were arrested at the scene.
Deputy Jerry Poreba’s injuries were not life-threatening, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday night.
