Georgia: Police Officer struck by vehicle while attempting to apprehend suspect
When Cobb police officers responded to a report of shoplifting near a Home Depot on Cumberland Parkway Friday afternoon, the car the suspect was in hit an officer as well as a civilian vehicle and two patrol vehicles, according to Cobb police. The call came in at about 2:30 p.m., and when police responded, the male shoplifting suspect fled on foot and eventually got in a woman’s car that was in the parking lot of a nearby Starbucks at the intersection of Cumberland Parkway and Paces Ferry Road, according to Officer Alicia Chilton, spokesperson for Cobb police.
When police attempted to make contact with those in the vehicle, the woman drove away from the Starbucks “at a high rate of speed” with the suspected shoplifter in the car, Chilton said. As she fled, she struck an officer and knocked him to the ground.
The woman also hit a civilian vehicle and two police vehicles as she drove toward Atlanta Road, Chilton said. She eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the wood line on Cumberland Parkway at Paces Walk.
The suspects fled on foot, but were quickly apprehended, Chilton said.
