Tennessee: Officer injured after patrol car struck by suspected DUI driver
A Metro police officer received minor injuries after his patrol car was hit by a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 24 West early Sunday morning. It happened near exit 62 around 12:30 a.m.
Police told News 2 the officer was responding to a crash when an SUV driven by a suspected drunk driver struck the driver’s side of his patrol car.
After colliding with the patrol car, the SUV flipped and caught on fire.
The interstate was shut down for almost two hours while officers investigated and cleaned up debris.
The officer and another driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The suspected drunk driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
He will be charged with driving under the influence, according to police.
Police want to remind drivers of the “Move Over” law, which requires motorists to move over into the adjacent lane of traffic, when safe to do so, or alternatively to slow down for emergency vehicles.
