Ohio: Teen hit officer with stolen car, led police on chase

Police arrested an 18-year-old they said hit a police officer with a stolen truck and led officers on a chase Saturday.

Police found De'Von Mikel Sams in a stolen Chevy truck at Montgomery Road and Pfeiffer Road. When officers told Sams to get out of the truck, he accelerated, striking a sergeant with the side of the vehicle, according to an affidavit.

Sams led officers on a 20-plus-minute chase, reaching speeds of 115 miles per hour, police said.

The high-speed chase ended after the truck hit stop sticks near the Stewart Road exit on I-71 SB. The truck hit the concrete wall in the middle of the interstate, near the outside lane, police said. Sams then attempted to escape in the woods, but was captured and taken into custody.

Police charged Sams with receiving stolen property, felonious assault and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

More information about the condition of the struck officer was not immediately available.
