New Jersey: N.J. transportation worker struck on Route 80 east in Saddle Brook
A state Department of Transportation worker was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning with a broken leg after a car struck him on Route 80 in the eastbound lanes, State Police said.
Authorities closed two lanes of the highway following the accident, which occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m., but they were reopened by 1:30 p.m., according to the DOT.
The worker had been pinned underneath the car and was freed by emergency workers who arrived on the scene and a tow truck operator, Sgt. Jeff Flynn said. The injured man was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, he said. The DOT said it did not know the worker’s condition or have information about his injuries.
The driver of the car, a Chevrolet Malibu, also was taken to the hospital but police did not have information about the extent of his injuries.
The accident occurred at mile post 62 at 10:37 a.m., Flynn said. The two right lanes and the shoulder were closed while police investigated.
