Idaho: Pickup Crashes into Fire Engine Near Burley

A woman was taken to a hospital Thursday afternoon after crashing into the back of a fire engine on Idaho 27 south of Burley. The engine, from the North Rural Cassia County Fire District truck, was responding to a semi truck hauling straw that caught on fire, firefighters at the scene said.

The semi pulled to the side of the road about 725 South on Idaho 27. The fire engine arrived and was firefighters were putting out the fire when a woman in a Chevrolet Silvarado crashed into the back of the engine. Shaylee Alexander, 29, of Burley, was southbound on Idaho 27 when her vision became obscured by smoke before she drove into the back of the truck, Idaho State Police said. Firefighters said the driver failed to slow down as she approached the fire.

Multiple fire departments are still working on the fire, including Albion, Declo, Oakley and Minidoka County. A reporter at the scene said piles of straw were still burning on the side of the road about 4 p.m.  Alexander was wearing a seat belt. She was taken by ambulance to Cassia Regional Medical Center.
