Florida: FHP trooper among those injured in I-95 crash
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was freed from a cruiser on Interstate-95 southbound after a crash left him trapped in his vehicle, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. According to the St. Johns County Fire Rescue Facebook, seven units were on the scene at the crash Tuesday morning on mile marker 321. Two heavy units were also there and were used to get the trooper from the vehicle.
A victim has been identified as having life-threatening injuries and was in the process of being airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville. There are two other victims who were taken to hospitals. It is not clear at this time if the trooper was life-flighted. The Sheriff’s Office said the trooper was on the side of the highway working a traffic stop. Another vehicle crashed into the back of his car.
Authorities said that I-95 southbound in that area will be extremely slow for several hours.
