Connecticut: Norwalk police car struck on Route 7

State police responded to a two car accident on the Route 7 Connector on Tuesday afternoon in which a Norwalk Police patrol car was reportedly hit from behind by the driver of an SUV.

At approximately 1:55 p.m., a marked Norwalk Police vehicle assigned to a Distracted Driving Enforcement Detail was struck on the Route 7 Connector southbound just past exit one.

Police said that the officer driving the marked patrol car suffered neck pain as a result of the crash and was transported to Norwalk Hospital via police car where he was treated and later released.

The other operator, a woman from Norwalk who was driving a Nissan Rogue, was not injured.

Police said that it appeared that the driver of the Nissan turned directly into the left rear of the marked Norwalk patrol car as the officer was slowing down in the right hand lane and pulling to the shoulder to assist another officer who had stopped a car as part of the distracted driving detail.

According to police, the patrol car’s emergency lights were activated as the officer approached and slowed.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

Connecticut State Police are conducting the motor vehicle accident investigation.
