California: Driver rams CHP vehicle during Oakland sideshow investigation

California Highway Patrol officers arrested a 19-year-old driver who allegedly rammed a CHP patrol vehicle during a pursuit early Sunday morning in Oakland.

Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, officers were in the area investigating a report of a sideshow when they spotted a silver Hyundai on northbound Interstate Highway 880 near High Street, according to the CHP.

Officers attempted to stop the car because the right front passenger was hanging out the window without their seat belt on.

The vehicle didn’t stop and fled from officers, exiting the highway at 29th Avenue, CHP officials said.

The vehicle then spun out and then intentionally rammed the pursuing CHP patrol car in an attempt to escape, according to the CHP.

The pursuit ended when the driver struck a parked car and got trapped on East 15th Street, which comes to a dead end.

The driver, San Leandro resident Gabriel Parker, then attempted to flee again, but was detained by officers, according to CHP officials.

Officers arrested Parker on suspicion of reckless evading, assaulting an officer, hit-and-run and participating in a sideshow.
