A 45-year-old Alameda County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized with a broken leg after a suspected drunken driver broadsided his parked car in Castro Valley early Friday morning, officials said.
The driver of the BMW SUV, Rufus Coleman, was traveling on East Castro Valley Boulevard when he swerved right and hit the deputy’s car, a California Highway Patrol official said.
At the time of the crash, the door of the deputy’s vehicle was ajar and he was sitting in the driver’s seat with his left leg positioned against the door, the official said. The deputy, Jason Deitschman, was parked on the right shoulder for a traffic stop.
