Canada: Boss of Winnipeg driver who struck five parked police cars says traffic ticket to blame for ‘smash up derby’
The owner of a courier company says he believes a traffic ticket led a driver to smash into five parked police cars before leading officers on a lengthy chase along the Trans-Canada Highway. Bill Murray of B&R Transport said the employee received a ticket Monday morning for talking on a cellphone while driving.
“He called on our two-way radio and said, ’Oh, I just got a cellphone ticket,”’ Murray said. “He went to pick up another couple of pickups that we gave him and then from there he went downtown and played smash-up derby.” Police said they would not release the name of a suspect until formal charges are laid.
