Virginia: Trooper Injured When Patrol Car Is Struck On I-81

Virginia State Police say a Harrisonburg man has been charged with driving under the influence after crashing into a trooper's vehicle on Interstate 81 Sunday morning. At 3:37 am, Trooper A.R. Johnson was running stationary radar in the median of I-81 at mile marker 245 in Harrisonburg. Javier B. Garcia, 31, was driving a 2004 Mercury SUV northbound on the interstate when he ran off the roadway into the median and struck Johnson's vehicle head on.

According to police, Garcia was not injured but was arrested for driving under the influence.Johnson was taken to Sentara RMH and then transferred to the University of Virginia Hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the crash
