Texas: Bicycle Safety patrol officer hit by car in downtown Dallas
A member of the Downtown Safety Patrol in Dallas was hit by a car as he was riding his bike Friday night. Just before 9 p.m., a call came out for an officer hit at the intersection of Ross Avenue and Lamar Street. The person was a member of the Downtown Safety Patrol, one of 50 who often work on bikes outfitted in yellow polo shirts who assist Dallas police.
At the scene, the bike helmet belonging to the officer and a single shoe were in the northbound lanes of Lamar. Dallas police confirmed the officer was hit and taken to a local hospital. There is no update on their condition as of late Friday night. The driver of the car that hit the officer stayed at the location of the crash.
News 8 crews witnessed Dallas police search a maroon four-door sedan stopped just a few hundred feet from the scene. They also saw a person being held in the back of a squad car. Dallas police say they will release more information as warranted.
