Michigan: Woman dies after truck hits fire engine

A woman died after the truck she was riding in, crashed into a fire truck on Saturday. It happened around 1:30 p.m. on I-75 just south of the City of Grayling. The City of Grayling’s City Manager, Doug Baum says, The Grayling Department of Public Safety was tending to a previous car crash and had one of their engines blocking the right lane of the highway.

A pickup truck, driven by an East Lansing man, was in the right lane and reports say it appears he tried to merge into the left lane but it appeared a car wasn’t letting him merge. Baum says, due to the pickup truck’s speed, the driver was unable to stop and hit the rear of the GDPS engine. Five Public Safety Officers, who witnessed the crash, responded immediately and the driver exited the truck on his own.

However, the woman passenger had significant injuries. She was taken to Munson-Grayling Hospital but died a short time afterwards. No safety workers were injured during the crash.
