Michigan: Warren police officer hit by truck while directing traffic
A Warren police officer was taken to the hospital after he was hit by a truck while directing traffic at the intersection of 13 Mile and Hoover roads at 12:20 p.m. June 23. According to an official statement from the Warren Police Department, officer Kenneth Hubert, 29, was treated for potentially-serious injuries after he was struck by a 2008 Dodge Ram. His condition was not immediately clear, but a source said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Hubert was reportedly at the intersection assisting a Macomb County traffic light repair crew when he was struck by the truck, driven by a 54-year-old Sterling Heights resident. According to the release, officers parked marked vehicles in the left turn lanes of the intersection with emergency lights activated and were on foot directing traffic when Hubert was hit and thrown into the air. He reportedly landed in the roadway.
He was rushed to the St. John Hospital on Moross in Detroit where he was reportedly treated for a possible head injury.
Capt. Dan Beck of the Warren Police Department said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision continued. He said the driver of the truck remained at the scene and was cooperative. “At this point he’s not under arrest or anything like that,” Beck said. “Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.”
Beck said Hubert has been with the Warren Police Department for four years.
