Massachusetts: • Center Harbor police chief hit by car fleeing scene

Matthew T. McKeen, 27, of Laconia, faces charges of felony reckless conduct, second-degree assault, conduct after an accident and disobeying an officer. Furnished by Meredith policePolice said that Chase saw a vehicle parked in an unusual manner with its lights off in the parking lot of the Center Harbor baseball fields, located off Route 25b.

Chase stepped out of his cruiser to talk to the driver, Matthew T. McKeen, 27, of Laconia. McKeen hit Chase with his car as he sped away. A broadcast was put out for police departments to look for the vehicle. Around 12:30 a.m., the vehicle was located and stopped by a Meredith police officer near the Laconia Harley-Davidson in Meredith, but McKeen once again fled the scene.

A short while later, McKeen crashed on Pickerel Pond Road in Laconia. The accident is being investigated by the Laconia police. McKeen was arrested by the Meredith Police Department and charged with aggravated DWI, reckless operation and disobeying a police officer.

The Center Harbor Police Department has charged McKeen with felony reckless conduct, second-degree assault, conduct after an accident and disobeying an officer. McKeen is being held on $10,000 cash bail and will be arraigned at 1 p.m. Monday in Laconia.
