Indiana: Impaired driver nearly struck trooper during traffic stop
Indiana State Police say a Henderson man was under the influence of alcohol when he nearly struck a trooper on Saturday night. The trooper was assisting Evansville Police and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office with a traffic stop on U.S. 41 at Riverside Drive.
Police say the trooper was securing a female suspect in his patrol car when he heard other officers yelling at the driver of an oncoming pickup truck to stop. We're told the driver slammed on the brakes and stopped inches from the trooper's patrol car.
Police say the driver then pulled away and nearly struck the trooper. They tell us the vehicle came to a stop after a passenger in the pickup truck put the vehicle in park. Police say the driver, 30-year-old Griffin Yorke, had a blood alcohol content of .23%. He is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and an Open Container Violation. Yorke was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
