Louisiana: Police car struck on I-10, officer hospitalized

A police cruiser was struck late Tuesday night on westbound I-10, injuring a New Orleans police officer.  The officer, who remains unnamed, remains in stable condition. The incident happened just after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on I-10 West near I-160 West.

Police say the officer was helping motorists involved in a different accident when he was injured. Lights were activated on the marked car when it was struck, police say. A black SUV struck the police unit from the rear. The officer was inside of his vehicle at the time. The collision caused the police cruiser to strike a vehicle in front of it that was involved in the previous accident. The driver of the SUV was also hospitalized. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, police say.
