Georgia: Officer struck by car at crash on Jimmy DeLoach Parkway
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating an incident in which a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department patrol officer was struck by a car while investigating another collision Tuesday night. The West Chatham Precinct officer was transported to a hospital for treatment and released today after being struck by an SUV at Jimmy DeLoach Parkway and Benton Boulevard at 8:20 p.m.
The officer had been investigating a previous collision in which one car sped away without stopping and he had stooped over in front of his police car to pick up debris from the accident when he was struck by a Jeep turning left in the intersection. The driver of the Jeep stopped to render aid along with Pooler and Bloomingdale police officers who responded quickly. Garden City Police offered to help cover calls in the area while Metro officers were on scene.
