California: Alameda police report man hits officer with car
A 60-year-old man faces multiple charges after he deliberately struck a police officer with his vehicle during a traffic stop, then collided with a patrol car as he tried to flee the scene by driving off, police said. The man, who was arrested at 5:25 p.m. May 20 in the 1000 block of Lincoln Avenue, also was involved in two additional hit-and-runs before his vehicle became disabled and he was taken into custody, police said. A woman, 32, who was traveling with the man was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics.
Police said the man initially became uncooperative toward the officer during the traffic stop and accelerated into the roadway, which caused the rear fender of his vehicle to hit the officer, and then drove directly at an oncoming patrol car, colliding with it. The man, who faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and others, was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant, police said.
