Australia: Officer Strukc By Vehicle Near Coffs Harbour
A CRITICAL incident investigation has been launched after a police officer was injured during an operation yesterday. Around 1.30pm Saturday, police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore travelling north on the Pacific Highway near Emerald Beach, north of Coffs Harbour. Road spikes were deployed near Solitary Islands Way and successfully stopped the Holden.
Two teenage girls allegedly ran into property off Solitary Islands Way before being arrested by police a short time later.
During the operation, a 41-year-old police officer sustained a number of injuries after being struck by a police vehicle.He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition and was airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital. A Critical Incident Team will now investigate all the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions of police.
The investigation will be conducted by Richmond Local Area Command.
