Virginia: Sheriff’s sergeant expected to survive after he’s hit directing traffic outside Caroline High School
Caroline County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Hall is expected to survive a scary accident outside Caroline High School. A car struck Hall while he directed traffic outside the school at about 7 a.m. Monday. Hall was flown to VCU Medical Center where he was treated for a broken leg and head injury.
Caroline County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ted Lambert said all initial scans and tests have been reported as “positive.” The driver accused of hitting Hall was identified as Herbert Hines, 86, of Ruther Glen. Hines was charged with wreckless driving. A mother who reached out via social media said her son was “devastated” by what he saw. “Please keep Chris Hall and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from this incident,” Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa said.
Hall was wearing a reflective vest and using a traffic baton while he directed traffic in a school zone at the intersection of Route 207 and Devils Three Jump Road when he was hit by Hines’ 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass, investigators said. The crash remains under investigation.
