Ohio: Columbus police officer struck by vehicle, search still on for suspects
A Columbus police officer is recovering from injuries he sustained after being hit by a car Wednesday evening. According to police, the officer was hit in the 3300 block of Matilda Lane around 7 p.m. Officials say the cop was answering a call to break up a menacing fight that involved several men. Reports say the fight involved five men who were punching and kicking a man, identified as Edward Molet, on the ground. As cops tried to bring the situation under control, some of the suspects started to run away from the scene.
Two of the assault suspects got into a vehicle in an attempt to leave the scene. As a Columbus police officer was passing the car, the vehicle reversed gears and accelerated quickly. The vehicle then hit the officer on the left knee. The vehicle is described as a flat back, dark gray Nissan Altima with an unknown license plate and tag cover. The car also has tinted tail lights and gray rims.Police are still looking for all five suspects in the aggravated assault case.
