Connecticut: State Trooper hit on I-95 in Orange

A Connecticut State Trooper was sitting in his cruiser when he was hit by a motorist at highway speed early Friday morning.

Just before 2:30 a.m., the trooper was parked on Interstate 95 northbound near the rest stop at Exit 41 in Orange. According to reports, the trooper’s car was struck by a blue Nissan Altima traveling at highway speed.

All lanes were blocked while emergency crews responded to the scene with extrication equipment. State police reported that the trooper was conscious and alert as he was removed from his cruiser. The driver of the Nissan, who has not yet been identified, was unresponsive after the crash. Both were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for their injuries. There is no word on their conditions.
