Maryland: Montgomer County EMS Units Struck on I-495
At just after midnight this morning, units from (Montgomery County, Maryland) stations 710, 711, and 726 were operating on the inner loop of I-495 just past River Road.As the crew from Ambulance 711 was assessing the occupants sitting in a car along the right shoulder before the primary accident scene, ambulance crew, the original vehicle , and the ambulance was stuck by a pickup.This impact injured two (2) of the four (4) members of Ambulance 711's crews and entrapped the original occupants sitting in the car.Additional resources were called and patient care was initiated. The two injured members of Ambulance 711's crew received serious injuries and were transported to Suburban Hospital trauma center with serious life threatening injuries. The other two crew members where un-injured.The original three occupants of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and all three were taken to Medstar trauma center.
