Rhode Island: Police Officer Struck by Car in Officer-Involved Shooting
Cranston Police crews were dispatched on Saturday afternoon January 3 to a Cranston Street restaurant after multiple calls came in for shots fired shortly before 4:00 p.m. In a press release sent to NBC 10, Cranston Police Col. Michael Winquist says that the officer who was involved noticed suspicious activity outside the Hong Kong Buffet Restaurant on Cranston Street. Once the officer approached the suspect's vehicle, the officer noticed the driver holding a bag in her hand which was believed to be cocaine. Once police attempted to arrest the suspect, the driver put her vehicle in reverse which trapped the officer in a door frame before striking the police cruiser. Fearing for his safety, the officer opened fire and several rounds were shot which did not hurt the suspect. The suspect fled in her vehicle which was found a short time after behind a Randall Street residence.
