Colorado: Off-Duty Sergeant Killed While Directing Traffic at an Accident

An off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office sergeant was killed Saturday afternoon while he was trying to help direct traffic following an accident on US 285 about three miles north of Conifer. The sergeant, identified by the JCSO as 15-year employee Sean Renfro, is survived by his wife and four children.

Colorado State Patrol says Renfro and another man, identified as Samual Yesurantnam, 46, stopped to offer assistance after a Mitsubishi SUV lost control and ran off the road. It happened at around 2:40 p.m. at Doubleheader Ranch Road -- about eight miles west of C-470.
