Vermont: Trooper Hurt in Accident - Fire Truck Struck in a Later Accident
Two Vermont highway accidents this week involved public vehicles. One injured a police officer and the other damaged a fire truck. A Vermont State Police cruiser was struck by a passing motorist while assisting with an accident on Interstate 91 in Windsor, between Exit 8 and Exit 9, southbound, according to a news release from the police.
Alexander Schramm, 26, of White River Junction, lost control of his 2008 Nissan Altima at 8:40 a.m. as he attempted to slow and avoid the accident ahead. Schramm struck a guardrail and a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria occupied by Vermont State Police Corporal Michael Sorensen, 45.
Sorensen was transported to Mount Ascutney Hospital with minor back pain. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Schramm received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint in connection with the crash.
Later in the day, Milo Nelson, 84, of Lake Elmore, Vt., struck a 2009 Hartford fire truck with his 2004 Dodge Intrepid, according to a separate news release from the Vermont State Police. The truck was parked near Exit 11 on I-91 to assist with another accident when it was hit, said Captain Alan Beebe of the Hartford Fire Department.
