  • Canada: Dufferin County Declares State of Emergency Due to Weather

    Dufferin County has declared a state of emergency Tuesday afternoon because of high winds and frigid temperatures created dangerous driving conditions. “Local resources have been exhausted and mutual assistance agreements need to be implemented to further manage this situation,” county warden Bill Hill said in a release. The bad weather may be behind a crash involving an OPP officer who was hurt after her cruiser was rear-ended by a transport truck just west of Orangeville earlier in the day.

  • Canada: Ontario Provincial Police Cruisers Struck

    Two provincial police officers were injured Wednesday when their cruisers were struck by other vehicles. Police say an officer was taken to hospital when his cruiser was hit by a tractor-trailer while he was stopped at the side of Highway 10 near Bovaird Drive in Brampton, Ontario. The officer was trapped in the vehicle after it was pushed against a guardrail. His injuries are considered minor. Earlier in the day, a female officer was injured after her cruiser was hit by a tractor-trailer west of Orangeville. Her injuries were also non-life-threatening.

  • Florida: State Trooper Hurt in Crash on I-4 Near Seffner

    A Florida state trooper was injured in a crash Wednesday night on Interstate 4 in the area of Seffner, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Two lanes of westbound I-4 were closed just west of McIntosh Road, but reopened this morning, the FHP said.

  • Maryland: Construction Worker Struck, Killed On I-695 Identified

    Police have now identified the worker who died Friday as John Kahl of Port Deposit. He was a subcontractor for the State Highway Administration. “The men and women of SHA offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Mr. Kahl. Our contractors are an extension of our SHA team and we are truly saddened by this tragedy,” said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters.

    A man faces a slew of charges following a police pursuit in which he dragged an officer to escape an arrest attempted during a traffic stop in Severna Park.

  • Tennessee: Ice Stopped Deputy From Being Hit by Suspect's Car

    Washington County, Tennessee sheriff Ed Graybeal tells us they arrested Joe Timothy Hankal Friday afternoon. They tell us they originally stopped Hankal after he was seen not wearing a seatbelt. After being pulled over, officers say Hankal gave a deputy a false name. Sheriff Graybeal tells us after the deputy confronted Hankal about the name, he put his vehicle into 'drive' and took off. Investigators say if it wasn't for the car's wheels spinning on ice before gaining traction, the deputy could have been seriously hurt.

  • Washington: Trooper Injured in Traffic Stop

    A state trooper was struck by an alleged drunk driver during a traffic stop in Moses Lake Monday night. Trooper Jeremy Weber, 40, of Waterville, was treated on scene for his injuries, according to the State Patrol. Weber was conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of West Broadway Avenue and South Gumwood Street about 10 p.m. While he was outside his patrol car, he was reportedly struck by a vehicle as it passed in the right lane.   • Wisconsin: State Trooper Hit and Injured in Crash

    A Wisconsin State Patrol said weather played a factor in a crash that left a state trooper with serious injuries after being hit by a car Sunday afternoon.

  • Wisconsin: State Trooper Struck by Vehicle Along Highway 41

    The investigation continues into a weekend car crash that seriously injured a Wisconsin State trooper. According to the Wisconsin DOT, State trooper Justin Hansen was investigating a crash off U.S. 41 in Menasha, when another car spun out of control, and struck the trooper's cruiser. Officer Hansen was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

  • Illinois: Trucker Charged in Accident That Killed Tollway Worker, Injured Trooper in Fiery Crash

    Renato V. Velasquez of Hanover Park has been charged in connection with a crash that killed an IDOT worker and injured an Illinois State Police Trooper. The worker, Vincent Petrella, loved his job at the tollway, especially being out on the road in weather people hated. "He just loved it," said his sister Maria Petrella. "He always looked forward to it when it came to snow. He was just a hard worker."
