Maryland: State Police Vehicle Struck on Route 40
A Montgomery County man was killed early Thursday morning when his compact car crashed into a tractor-trailer rig on a highway near Perryville, as he reportedly sped from law enforcement officers after failing to pull over for a traffic stop in Elkton, according to Maryland State Police.
Moments after the fatal crash, a vehicle struck an unoccupied, marked MSP cruiser off the eastbound lane of West Pulaski Highway after that vehicle passed a truck in the slow lane, police said, adding that the trooper had parked the patrol car with its emergency lights flashing so he could assist at the nearby crash scene. No one was injured in that collision, according to police officials, who noted that the trooper was able to drive the damaged cruiser back to the North East Barrack.
