Tennessee Officer Injured, Grazed By Car After Shoplifting Incident

Shots were fired and one police officer injured after a shoplifting incident at Rivergate Mall Monday evening. Officials said that around 7 p.m. undercover detectives were working in Rivergate Mall, due to an increase in shoplifting in the area. Officers noticed two women shoplifting from the mall and followed them to the parking lot.

Metro Police said the two undercover officers followed the four women to a parking spot near the mall entrance. They were allegedly ripping the tags off merchandise they had stole elsewhere and were getting ready to return it at the mall. According to police, the officers blocked in the car, got out and identified themselves as police. That's when the car took off out of the space, grazing the leg of one of the officer. The other officer couldn't get out of the way and opened fire.
