Connecticut: Non-Line of Duty Struck by Death
A veteran Danbury police officer and father of three young sons was killed riding his bicycle to work on Route 7 late Thursday. Hassiak, who worked the midnight shift for many years, often rode a bicycle to work from his New Milford home, and was scrupulous about safety, Baker said. Hassiak was wearing a fluorescent vest, with lights on his bicycle and helmet, when he was struck around 10:25 p.m. by a southbound vehicle on Route 7, just north of the Brookfield town line.
