Delaware EMT Struck By Hit and Run Driver
New Castle Delaware. An EMT was struck on US 13 Saturday night December 20 while tending to a patient involved in a motorcycle accident. The EMT from the Delaware City Fire Company responded on Ambulance A-15. According to news reports both the patient and the EMT were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
News Video shows that a New Castle County Police Cruiser was also damaged in the accident. Reportedly the driver of the vehicle that struck the EMT fled the scene in another vehicle and has yet to be apprehended.
The Delaware City Fire Company was just honored by the National Association of EMT's as the Volunteer Emergency Medical Service of the Year.

Delaware City has sustained some family & personal pain this evening. One of our own, Michelle Smith was struck by a vehicle.
She was treated and transported to CER with trauma injuries. She is in stable condition and was conscious and talking with the Chief while at the scene and during transport. She has been taken into surgery late this evening (early Sunday morning) and will be in surgery for approximately 4 hours, with a 2 hour recovery period at the minimum.
We are asking that you keep Michelle and her family in your prayers and thoughts for a safe surgery and a speedy recovery.*
