NORTH CAROLINA TROOPER CAR STRUCK FROM BEHIND
A North Carolina State Trooper is at home resting Wednesday after his patrol car was struck from behind Tuesday afternoon. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Trooper Steven McHenry, 36, of Thomasville, was stopped in the southbound lane of Friendship-Ledford Road at 3:25 p.m., waiting to make a left turn into a private driveway.
A 1998 Toyota sport utility vehicle driven by Christopher Martin, 17, of Stoney Ridge Road, Winston-Salem, approached McHenry’s 2006 Ford Crown Victoria from the rear and struck it at an estimated 35 miles per hour. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 45 mph.
The patrol car was propelled forward and came to rest 27 feet from the area of impact. McHenry was taken to Thomasville Medical Center where he was treated for soreness in his neck and later released. The tail lights of the patrol car were damaged, and the trunk was bowed. A monetary estimate of the damage was not available Wednesday morning. Damage to Martin’s vehicle was estimated at $3,500. He was ticketed for failure to reduce speed.
