MAN INJURED AFTER STRIKING IOWA DEPUTY'S CAR
A Riverside man was injured Thursday after the vehicle he was driving allegedly struck the rear of a Washington County Sheriff's deputy's car.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Washington County Sheriff Deputy Eric Holsapple was stopped and his emergency lights were activated on Riverside Road just south of Riverside at 3:40 p.m. as he directed traffic because of a nearby house fire.
At the same time, Bernard Thomann, 84, was northbound on Riverside Road when he struck Holsapple's vehicle, causing it to strike a parked vehicle belonging to a firefighter at the scene of the fire, the patrol said. Thomann was taken to University Hospitals by Washington County Ambulance. Information on his condition was not immediately available. The accident remains under investigation, the patrol said.
