LONDON OFFICER STRUCK BY CAR DURING COCAINE BUST

A police officer suffered non life-threatening injuries while attempting to arrest two suspects during a London police Drug Unit investigation, Thursday (April 3). London police Const. Amy Phillipo said the officer was involved in the Drug Unit's attempt to arrest two occupants of a vehicle parked in front of an Ambleside Drive address, at around 4 p.m.

When officers attempted to make the arrests, the driver reversed the vehicle striking the officer and then striking a tree. Both suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended by police, "one, after a brief struggle," police said.

Inside the vehicle police found a kilo of powdered cocaine, 32 grams of crack cocaine and $2,702 in cash. Later that evening, at around 10:30 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at an address on Ambleside Drive and seized an additional 394 grams of crack cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash. In addition, police seized the vehicle involved in the earlier incident, which is valued at approximately $8,000.

Mathewos Towelde, 26, of London, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime. Michael Nguyen, 26, of London, is charged with two counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds obtained by crime and resisting arrest.

In addtiion, after an arrest warrant was issued by police, Michelle Durand, 27, of London, turned himself in Friday (April 4), shortly after 1 p.m., and is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.
