JUDGE REVERSES DECISION ON KING SENTENCE IN MARYLAND

A Harford County Circuit Court judge has reversed a decision she made last week to stay the jail term of Kerri King. She is the Elkton woman who is accused in the hit and run death of Maryland Transportation Authority Police Corporal Courtney Brooks, who was killed last New Year's Eve on I-95 in Baltimore City.

Brooks had been directing New Year's Eve traffic on I-95. Judge Mimi Cooper ruled today, that she did not have the authority to stay the one year jail term for King, who had been convicted of driving with a suspended license in Harford County. Last week, Judge Cooper stayed the sentence at the request of King's attorney.

Today, the judge did rule that King will get credit for her sentence in Harford County, as long as she stays in jail in Baltimore City, awaiting trial on Brooks' death. Harford County State's Attorney Joe Cassilly had objected to the initial stay of sentence, and had requested a hearing before Judge Cooper.

That hearing was held today. Cassilly told WBAL News that he is satisfied with the judge's decision.
