FIREFIGHTER INJURED IN MARION, PENNSYLVANIA CRASH
A member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Co. was flown by helicopter Friday to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center after being struck by a car while at the scene of an earlier accident, Pennsylvania State Police said. Gregory Martin, age and address unavailable, was in good condition Friday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
A police cruiser also was damaged in the crash in which Martin was injured, police said. The accident happened at 8:29 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 11 and Swamp Fox Road when a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Dorcas Sharar, 70, of Greencastle, Pa., failed to stop for fire police who were rerouting northbound traffic onto Swamp Fox Road, police said.
Sharar was traveling at about 55 mph when she failed to see the fire and ambulance personnel and equipment. Her car struck Martin before hitting a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier that had been damaged in the earlier crash, police said.
The damaged vehicle was pushed into the police cruiser and a stationary tractor-trailer, police said. Sharara sustained minor injuries and was treated at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital, police said. Trooper James Babirad, who was in the police cruiser, was not injured, police said.
