DRIVER STRIKES LOUISIANA DEPUTY BEFORE ESCAPING POLICE
Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s deputies were searching late Saturday night for a man who struck a deputy with his car before leading them on a chase through Houma. Brent Poiencot, 32, of Thibodaux, who is wanted for robbing video-poker machines in Terrebonne, Lafourche and Jefferson parishes, was last seen at 7 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area near the intersection of La. 316 and Country Estates Drive, a sheriff’s official said.
After deputies tried to arrest Poiencot in a store near Alma Street and Bayou Gardens Boulevard in Houma, he escaped by car, striking an officer as he fled.
“He’s fine,” said Capt. Darryl Steward of the sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force. “There was no medical attention required.”
Poiencot is a white male standing 5 feet 11 inches, sheriff’s deputies say. He was last seen wearing khaki shorts, a green striped shirt and a baseball cap.
