WISCONSIN DEPUTY STRUCK BY VEHICLE DURING CHASE
Authorities said that during a pursuit Friday afternoon a Dane County sheriff's deputy was struck by a stolen vehicle while trying to deploy road spikes at Highway 151 north of Byrd Street. Elise Schaeffer, public information officer for the Dane County Sheriff's Office, said the vehicle swerved to avoid hitting the spikes and hit the deputy instead.
Schaeffer said the deputy was transported by Med-Flight to University of Wisconsin Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Schaeffer said the incident happened at about 2:09 p.m. Friday. Authorities said the driver continued north of Highway 151. Authorities said the driver was fleeing in a 2006 Black Dodge Stratus, which was apparently stolen from a location in Stoughton.
Authorities said around 3:30 p.m. that the person they were pursuing has been taken into custody in Jefferson County. Authorities said that northbound lanes of Highway 151 are closed near the crossroad of County Highway V near Sun Prairie. Officials said there are significant traffic delays and they are urging motorists to avoid traveling in the area.
Authorities said Friday afternoon that they expect the northbound lanes to be closed for several hours. Schaeffer said the chase began with Madison police on Highway 51 near Schneider Drive. She said that Dane County sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit on Sprecher Road in the town of Blooming Grove and continued northbound on Highway 151.
